Mardi Gras season officially began today with a King’s Day kickoff conference held at River City Venues. The event included the annual address from Mayor Latoya Cantrell, who officially welcomed Carnival season with remarks that underscored the deep-rooted cultural ties between New Orleans and Mardi Gras history. The mayor’s speech was followed by special addresses from the captains of Rex and Zulu and ended with the unveiling of this year’s Zulu poster.
A key moment of the press conference was the first official king cake cut of the Mardi Gras season.
